Welcome of the Australian Forklift and Industrial Truck Association (AFITA)
The AFITA represents the interests of major suppliers of forklift trucks and associated equipment in Australia. The major focus of AFITA is to ensure the highest possible standards of performance, safety and client satisfaction.
The AFITA plays an active role in the development of Australian and International Standards for the forklift industry and in promoting the highest standards of safe use of equipment by producing guidance documents and through the conduct of annual National Forklift Safety Seminars.
The AFITA is governed by a National Council and supported by an Engineering Committee.
Previously known as the Australian Industrial Tuck Association (AITA), in 2019 we changed our name to the Australian Forklift and Industrial Truck Association (AFITA). The change was made to better represent the sector in which the association and its members operate. The former registered name (AITA) has created a level of confusion with the truck and transport sector. Accordingly the trading name has been changed to incorporate the vernacular term “forklift” while retaining the technically correct name “industrial truck’ which is used in the Australian and International Standards.
Membership of the AFITA is divided into two categories – Full Members and Associate Members.
Full Members are the substantial prime wholesale suppliers, manufacturers and importers, or their accredited representative, of self-powered industrial trucks actively and continuously conducting business in Australia.
Associate Members are major suppliers of ancillary equipment for, or major hirers of forklift trucks supplied by members.
